The City attempted to collaborate with the Twin Cities Area Transportation Authority (TCATA) in purchasing gasoline supplies in bulk tanker loads for FY2013. Based on 2012 pricing, the City of Benton Harbor expected to save over fifty-five thousand dollars ($55,000) annually with this joint purchasing initiative. Savings were anticipated for every City department, particularly in Public Safety, Public Works and Utility Services.
FY2014 UPDATE: This initiative was dropped in FY2013 due to two primary barriers.
BARRIERS: TCATA expressed apprehension about a partnership with the City due to its financial position and reputation at the time discussions were underway. In addition, the City determined that collaboration on this matter would result in procuring gasoline from a provider with whom the City has been dissatisfied in the past.
