The Grand Blanc Fire Department provides fire and rescue services for the City of Grand Blanc and Charter Township of Grand Blanc. The department is governed by a jointly appointed Fire Commission and this legislative body operates under the law known as the Police and Fire Protection Act 33 of 1951. The Commission was legally established on September 13, 1989, and began operations January 1, 1990.
Currently the department consists of 55 part-time fire fighters and 2 full-time employees. The cooperative agreement allows the City to maximize funding for fire and rescue services. Grand Blanc voters approved a ballot proposal, in November 2010, authorizing the funding at .5 mill to generate approximately $103,000 annually. Estimated cost savings: $100,000.
