Description
The Village of Newberry, along side with it's partners, is proud to be a part of the Tahquamenon Outdoor Recreation Complex (TORC), a four- season synthetic ice rink for hockey, training, exercise and community enjoyment. In 2010, The Village of Newberry acquired the parcel of land that the TORC project is being developed on. Recently, we have been awarded several grants toward this exciting project:
TARA has donated $100,000.00 (currently being held in an interest bearing CD) to match the grant money from the Village
MNTF (Michigan Natural Resources Trust fund) has donated $250,000.00
The total savings thus far for this project is $350,000.00, and this underwriting will allow The Village of Newberry to fund the site improvements and complete the installation of the synthetic ice.
2014 Update:
Additional funding for brownfield preparation was requested from DNR was secured causing a delay. Proposed construction will begin spring of 2014.
