Description
The City of Munising has a Mutual Aid Agreement in place witht he Alger County Road Commission for materials and parts. A Mutual Aid Agreement is an agreement among local units of government to lend assistance across jurisdictional boundaries. We have both "Emergency Ad-hoc" Mutual Aid Agreements and "Cooperative" Mutual Aid Agreements. Cooperative Mutual Aid agreements are in place on a continuous basis when specialized equipment or personnel may be needed by another jurisdiction. Examples of mutual aid include but are not limited to use of a City "Vac All" truck to the ACRC when called upon. On an as-needed basis, the City of Munising rents from the ACRC various pieces of equipment such as their pavement crack filling machine and equipment for cleaning and steaming culverts and pipes. Under this arrangement, each local unit of government is not required to purchase their own equipment for seasonal type work and each unit of government backs up each other in an emergency situation. Additionally, revenue is earned on equipment that is currently not in use for City operations. If the ACRC or City of Munising were to purchase the equipment that is leased or borrowed, they would have had to spend approximately $350,000 in equipment purchases.
