What the City of Onaway will propose
One of Onaway's neighboring municipalities has been without a city manager for the past several months. Onaway's city manager is very familiar with that community and has been employed by Onaway for the past 12-plus years.
Onaway's city manager has pitched a proposal that would include him acting in a management capacity in both Onaway and that municipality, which could save both communities at least $30,000.
The two communities have a total population of approximately 4,100. This proposal could result in both having the services of an experienced administrator for less than each would expect to pay otherwise.
Anticipated barriers
Working out the details of what each municipality would pay toward the manager's salary and benefits, how much time the manager would be scheduled in each office, what the manager's duties would be, added responsibilities to be borne by other members of the office staff, etc.
Acceptance of such a scenario by those who reside in the communities and the staffs of each municipality.
