PSAT/SAT Private Data

The College Board data is available from both the State portal as well as the College Board portal. The data from the College Board Portal does not provides the student grade level. Each district must download and send these files.

The Munetrix College Board SGX Dashboard was originally built in 2018 using data downloaded from the College Board portal. Since that time, the Michigan Department of Education has ramped up its support for College Board data from its own portal. MDE now has an updated data file when downloaded from the state’s portal. Some differences:

1.  College Board provides Percentiles; MDE does not (although the College Board provides a lookup table of ranges)

2.  MDE now provides 8th-grade Student Growth Percentiles (based on 7th-grade Math Scores as pretest); College Board does not

3.  MDE provides a student’s Grade (like 8); College Board does not (although the data file is usually separated by grade).

4.  College Board provides a student’s Graduation Date and Cohort Year; MDE does not (although an algorithm calculates a cohort year from grade)

5.  The MDE SAT data categorizes student results into the state’s 4 categories like M-STEP (Advanced, Proficient, Partial and Not).
